The Chinese artist Ai Weiwei was delivered a shipment of garments from 14 up-and-coming fashion designers. His instructions were to photograph the clothes for V magazine in whatever manner he chose. What better way to photograph fashion than to cover it in paint?

Ai Weiwei makes an empty canvas out of clothing designed to create a certain persona. The clothes don’t make the person, the person makes the person.
